Molise is a snall region in the South of Italy fiercely proud of it's roots.
It offers a great deal to women who want to embark on a voyage of self discovery.
As it remains virtually undiscovered by tourism it shelters within its arms a wealth of opportunities to  explore art, culture, food, nature and of course wine.
At the moment there is virtually nothing written about the region in English so it is difficult to find out about local places and events.
Although I have lived here for two years now, speak Italian fairly well, and know a lot of people even I struggle to keep up to date things happening.
The main reason this happens is because the local people know when the events occur in their village, and rarely think about telling anyone else.
When they know you are interested they respond very positively and you will often get invitations along to family gatherings and events, where a great deal of food and wine is consumed.

Food is very important here in Molise, and Infact one may go as far as suggesting it is NUMBER ONE, on their list of priorities.

Almost everyone without exception will describe a local dish to you, or sing the praises of a cheese, or type of biscuit.

As I am not a Foodie, this falls in deaf ears. I have battled with my weight all my life so do not have a good realtionship with food.

But there is more to Molise than food dispite what many of the locals would have you believe.

There are a hundred and thirty six towns and villages here, all very much with their own identity, ranging from hilltop fortications to seaside resorts.

Sadly the region having been largely ignored and forgotten it lacks some aspects of modern life which we tend to take for granted in Europe, as well as further afield.

But do not let this put you off coming here, as there is so much to see and do.

Getting places can be a bit of a challenge as the roads are pretty poor. However there is a reasonable bus network between all the main towns, and even to the outlying villages.

If you don't speak Italian too that can be something of a a challenge as certainly out in the countryside   You will rarely find anyone who speaks English.

Harboring on about the negative aspects of the region might have put you off, but don't let it.

If you will forgive my stealing the lyrics from a song sung by Ralph Mctell
in his song "The streets of London"
Let me take you by the hand to lead you not through the towns and villages of this amazingly unique region of Italy which is now my home.

I have traveled fairly extensively and always been reluctant to put down roots, but I have laid down the foundations of a life here, which I look forward to sharing with you.

For those of who are perhaps searching for something, whether it may be a new avenue to explore, a new adventure to follow, or for something to cannot even put a name to then Molise might just hold the answers.

You will certainly find peace and tranquillity in abundance, dusted liberally with a vast array of art and culture.
